Another arts market?

Yes, we see a need in Calgary for a DIY community arts market. STARRY DYNAMO is an opportunity to show and market work for artists, creators and organizers who normally do not have a space available. Often markets require a certain level of professionalism and astronomical tabling costs. We want the weird and wonderful to shine through; we want to allow for new creators, actual experiments, and those who work on smaller scales. We are a market that ensures space for smaller-scale independent artists, and a venue for those hair-brained ideas to fly.

Who is this market for?

We would love to hear from local printmakers, publishers, visual artists, conceptual art projects, DIY community organizations, weird crafters, curated collections.

We want to highlight what no other arts market will. We want to allow for new voices a chance to show in the community.STARRY DYNAMO has a commitment to providing possibility to marginalized groups and voices who tend to get less opportunities; groups not limited to LGTBQ+, Indigenous, POC, low income, and youth artists operating in the area. If you are situated in these communities, we are interested and hope to hear from you.

How to apply?

STARRY DYNAMO is a curated event. Unfortunately there is not the ability to allow for everyone. Selections will be made based upon the quality of work, similar projects and exposure.

There are a limited number of spaces available. Half tables are $30 each and full tables $60. We hope to allow for as many exhibitors as possible, so unless otherwise specified, we are hoping that exhibitors will be able to share half tables with each other. Please specify space requirements with application.

Look out for @attagirlceramics bringing a selection of pots such as mugs, ash trays, incense burners. Beautiful. Look out for @kate_letters_lots who makes art inspired by media and words bringing prints, stickers and more to the market! Look out for @cytoplasm.kd bringing illustrated zines, stickers, crochet soft sculpture toys, small scale original paintings, tufted soft patches! And then we'll have @lightsabertoothtiger with all the right prairie vibes of prints and paintings! If you've been enjoying the look of the posters and the look of all the Starry Dynamo stuff this round, it was designed by the lovely @beeaaarr who will also be tabling at the market with stickers and prints and so much more!! We have @jillian.fleck returning bringing a graphic novel, comic zines, prints, stickers, handmade inks! Witness the return of @bills.benevolent.association with a selection of printed goods including zines, ephemera, prints, clothing. Shut up and take my money. Look out for @artbyemmaguido and @cashewhoneycakes sharing a table, bringing us prints, stickers, zines, and small original artworks from both artists! Look for the intricate work of @augustboultonart bringing original art and prints of pen and ink drawings.
